Adirondack Vacation

We survived our vacation! Despite bears, swarming flies, and forgetfulness (Michelle forgot her pack and Rob forgot water purifying tablets) everything went swimmingly. The weather was gorgeous and we've decided that we love the Adirondacks. Here are some pictorial highlights from our trip. We hiked into the High Peaks Wilderness via Avalanche Pass:

This is Mt. Marcy, the highest point in New York state

And some dirty campers on top

Hanging Spear falls, on the Opalescent River

Lake Colden, where we camped for a week, from the top of Algonquin (the second highest point in NY)

Lake Colden from our campsite

Hiking out

Heart Lake, our starting point at the Adirondack Loj (the founder was into spelling reform)

Canoeing across Middle Saranac Lake in dubious weather

Michelle got published

Further proof Michelle is destined for greatness! The acadmeic journal at her school has published her paper on the teachers strikes in Oaxaca. The paper analyzes the situation in Oaxaca and provides suggestions to resolve the conflict between the government and indigenous groups. Remember this in 30 years when Michelle is being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. You can all say, I knew her when she was just beginning . . .

Here's a link to the paper:

The Maxwell Review

The article is on page 72.

Enjoy!

p.s. It has pictures...

we're still alive

Sorry for the long lack of posting, we kind of took a finals/Christmas break, but now we are back online, so to speak.

Highlights from our Christmas vacation include Michelle posing with a camel next to the nativity on Christmas Eve

Rob photographing an alligator in Brazos Bend park, near Houston, from much closer than the recommended 30 feet

...and celebrating the New Year in Pennsylvania with homeade dandylion wine

I hope all of you are starting out the new year happily and well. Here in Syracuse it's a bit chilly. If you want to feel my pain, you can visit the Syracuse weather page. The snow is piling up! More pictures to come...

Rob's in Charge

OK, the big news lately is that Rob has been promoted to Sunday Editor, which means he's in charge of some people (poor things). Congratulations Rob!

Befitting his new professional status, we got him this nifty suit at the thrift store. I will dye my hair red if he agrees to wear this suit often. Isn't it sexy?

PETITION

We the undersigned insist that Michelle dye her hair red and then get her hair permed super big. It is acknowledged that Michelle is beautiful exactly as she is, but we believe permed red hair would make her the most beautiful woman alive. By posting our comments below, we demonstrate our support for this proposed perm and dye job.
